All, I've never used a rev limiter, but thought it might be a good engine investment. Anyone have experience with these, have a particular preference, etc? Thanks. |

A rev limiter can be your friend. This is what happened when the throttle stuck on a 2332 turbo engine and the customer didn't get it shut off in time. Revved to over 11,000 RPM before the bearing welded to the crank. It now has a MSD 6AL box on it..............   There are rev limiting rotor buttons you can buy for an inexpensive limiter. Go right in a Bosch distributor. |

There is a place that you can find in a VW magazine that you can buy a rotor button for the 009 distributor that has some sort of a limiter built into it, I don't know what the place is called, but I have a buddy of mine bought one for his 1915 dunebuggy and it works great, he put it on his because he like to spin the tires on the street and he blew the CV and the motor revved out only at 6200rpm because of the rotor button he bought for it. It really works great and cheap too! Let me find out more about this and I will let you know. |

when I built my first 2276 with dual carbs, I didnt think I needed a rev limiter, so this is what happened, I blew it up on the first weekend. When I rebuilt the new 2276, my wife asked me if I was putting a rev limiter in there, so I bought a 5400 bosh rev limiter rotor. it was about 30 bucks. I ran that for the longest time, and then I bought a MSD 6AL and now I run a 6000 chip.

This is what the bosh rotor looks like. When the rotors spin at a set rmp, the little plastic contact will close and ground out the coil. Simple.

i will be investing a rev limiter for my new motor... I blew up my motor with hardly one season on it. Two broke valves, shattered piston, bent rod, cracked cylinder, destroyed mofoco 041 head.... much cheaper for the 30 dollar limiter

I put an MSD 6AL in mine with a 6000 chip. This makes it safer for drunk riding and friends who want to take it for a test drive. I've been known to get drunk and hold it on the rev limiter. |

I spent $150 on the MSD off-road rev limiter. I hooked it up with a 6000 chip and held it to the floor to see if it worked. It would not hit 6000. I thought the chip was bad so I put the 4000 in and it worked. I figure out why it wouldn’t hit 6000. I have a separate gas pedal with a travel stop bolt and it was set at 5800rpm. If I would have known that I could have saved $150, but then again it will save my motor if the throttle sticks. To me $150 is cheaper than a 2332. |

I think that MSD systems are supposed to cut out the RPM's about 200 RPM below the desired setting, I know that you are saying that the throttle travel bolt was letting it go up to 5800, but I found out from my old one with the tach on board, I set it at 6000 to light up on the shift light and once I held it wide open and it started to cut out then I checked the recall on the tach and it showed "5800" and it never lit up and I was running a "6000" chip. I am currently set at 6700 RPM on my Digital 6AL on the new rail so it will start cutting out at 6500 RPM, hell, it even has a staging retard to where I can have a push button on the steering wheel to let the motor cut out at whatever RPM you set it at, when sitting still, you can hold it to the floor and it will cut out at whatever you set then release the button and clutch at the same time will give you awesome take off power, but I would'nt use it

i ran a 2 step for a long time.it did killerwheeles but killed rev. gear a time or 2 i used a 3800 studer chip and a 8000 take off chip. |
