the motor that dropped the valve and bent the rod that i posted a few weeks ago we put the crank back in the case you can clearly see its out of shape so did i get screwed or can you have it fixed?????????? i can post some pics if you want!! :mrgreen:(82mmcrank)

It can be straightened but the cost is quite a bit more than a new one. Personally I wouldn't trust one that had been straightened even if it was a cheap process. Bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Glad you had it checked I bet.

Yeah they can be straightened by a competent automotive machine shop that has some serious crankshaft experience.

Is it worth it?
Maybe

Would I trust it?
Probably not.

It may run forever or it might take a dump as soon as you fire it off.
I'd get a new crank and be done with it.
Oh, now is a good time to upgrade the rods too............ 8)

If the crank will still turn freely when the case is bolted together tightly I doubt the crank is bent.I would take it to a good automotive machine shop and have them check it out in a set of v-blocks.i have seen MANY VW cranks be straightened and never give a bit of trouble.if it was a cast crank i would worry about it but VW cranks are actually made from some of the best material there is.
