I have a motor that came with my one seater, the guy said it was a 1700 pancake motor that was fuel injected. He converted it to an upright. Looks just like a type one now, was just wondering if it was any count or a piece of junk, or what it came out of?? Runs great, single delorto 40, everything looks normal? Anybody got a clue??
There is a T-3 engine that is called a pancake engine.
Those came in Squarebacks, Notchbacks and Fastbacks.
This is a Fastback.

It can be converted to an upright Beetle style engine easily with the parts typically found on
a T-1 Beetle engine.
You have to use a dipstick adapter that bolts on to the block but that isn't a big deal.
Nothing came factory as a 1700 other than aT-2 bus engine.
Yours is probably stock or a 1641(87 piston) or 1679 (88 piston).
Internally it is the same as a Beetle engine, can be hot rodded and modified just like a Beetle engine.
Only factory difference is the cooling, exhaust and induction system.
