Dual 36 Dell problems. I’m new to Dells so I need a little help. When I fire up the new rail number 1 and 2 exhausts are only warm to the touch. I checked the plugs and they looked a little fouled. When it idles it runs ok and every now and then it backfires through the exhaust. I haven’t checked if they are synchronized yet but I did turn the air fuel mixture screws all the way in and no change. Can the synchronization be that far off to cause this? Just wondering before I tare into it. Thanks, Brad |

if you turned them all the way in and nothing happened,it should be clogged jets in that carb. |

I may not be a carb man, but I think you need to take the linkage off of your carbs and then try to adjust them evenly with the engine off, I used to have the same problem, one side is running warmer and the other side was running cooler, one carb was set to idle higher than the other one was until I saw what it was, I unhooked the linkage and tried adjusting the idle screws until it barely touches the lever and then turn it no more than half-turn and try to start the motor and see what it does. I recommend using a syncronizer to adjust the idle screws until it reads evenly on both sides and also helps set the idle to where you want it, and then try adjusting your mixture screws to get it to where it runs best, then shut your engine off, then hook your linkages back up and adjust your rods to where it will line-up evenly with the current setup. It is a lifesaver for me, I got it running real smooth now and ready to ride. P.S. I am running Weber 44's, it should be no different than the Dells on setting up the system. Call for Dave at Shadetree Performance, he is very good at this setup, he helped me with my carb problems and got them cured. |

Another thing to consider is that those type of carbs need the floot set properly and also no more than 3-5 psi fuel to the carb. sounds like you might be flooding "fouled plugs". I had a set years ago and they would run ok for awhile then flood. Just something i would check. |

I just decided to replace them with my dual 44idf that I just installed the update kit in. I just bolted them in and synchronized them and they run good. I think they run good I haven’t had it offroad yet but I will let you know. One problem with the dells is when I was trying to set the air fuel mixture one of the screws would go all the way into the carb and didn’t feel like it was seating in anything. I pulled the bad mixture screw out and it had a spring little washer then an O-ring same as the other 3. So it might be something internal but I don’t know and don’t have time to mess with them.
