hey guys whats up im new to the site an realy appreciate the info i have learned from here so far. my son an i are building first buggy. my pappy gave me a couple moters an im tryin to date an id the size of them . this one is suposed to be a 1641 (ah138231) the second one i believe is an old 1200 (8815838) would like to build the boy a 1 seater with that 1.these # i found under oil filler cap. wast quite sher were to look. thanks again!

You are best off if you use the case that starts with two letters. AE, AH, AJ etc.....
They have the best oiling system. Grab ahold of the crank pulley and try to move it in and out. It should not have more than ten thousanths movement. If it does, it needs rebuilt.
Stay away from the cases that have no letters. They are old school and better off in a vintage car.
I think the AH case is 1973. There is no way to tell if it is a 1641 unless you pull off the heads and measure the pistons.

On the 1641 it depends on if the person before rebuilt it and put in 88 pistons or something larger. Best way that I know would be to pull one of the heads off and measure the piston sleeve. The numbers are ususally just the ID of the case and size if it hasn't been built. My motor case is a 1600 that has been bored out to 94 pistons turning it into a 1915.
If Roy and some of the others that build motors come in I am sure that they might have a better way of finding out.

ya the crank puly is tight no play at all got it fired up after changing oil think im gonna change it again after i fire it up again to flush it out .

AH Block is a 1600cc block. You can build it up to a 1915 easily. Just make sure it is a good one before you go through the trouble. I always encourage everyone to build their high performance motors on a NEW case. Used is ok but you have to remember that these cases are over 30 years old. They are not like old Detroit Iron, they are Magnesium and do wear out. Check it out really well before you bore it out.
