any thing will break,I could never get a 6 rib to stay together .It's all about HP and the way you drive .Like Gizmo said." if it feels good, hold it to the floor & pour it to it" |

Welcome to The Site! Wouldnt waste my time bolting that motor up to a stock 3 rib, unless you like to REALLY baby it. Larry |

I agree with Larry. Don't waste your time with the 3 rib. Even if you put a super diff in it you will break first gear in no time. Use a 6 rib with a super diff. Then save your money for a set of Weddle gears and upgrade to that later. |

I've got almost 4 years on my 3 rib with a 1915 and I drive the hell out of it. Just put reverse in it for the first time also. Depends I guess on the tranny to begin with. I have seen 3 ribs break on the first outing also. 091 you cant beat it and I would recommend it for your 2276 The Wild Kids |

The 3-rib has 2 main weak points. The 3-ribs that have the "acorn" nuts behind the cv flanges are even worse as the pinion bearing setup inside is a very poor design. The first weakness is the first gear. This can be upgraded to the late style "super beetle" 9-tooth mainshaft (instead of the 10 tooth one that is normally in it). This will make 1st a lot stronger. The 2nd weak point is the ring and pinion and about 8 out of 10 I take apart are bad. I do not recommend a 3-rib for ANY abuse even with a small engine. I suggest either a 5 or 6-rib trans. For abuse, a superdiff and racing mainshaft are also needed. |
