any thing will break,I could never get a 6 rib to stay together .It's all about HP and the way you drive .Like Gizmo said." if it feels good, hold it to the floor & pour it to it"

Welcome to The Site!

Wouldnt waste my time bolting that motor up to a stock 3 rib, unless you like to REALLY baby it.

I agree with Larry. Don't waste your time with the 3 rib. Even if you put a super diff in it you will break first gear in no time. Use a 6 rib with a super diff. Then save your money for a set of Weddle gears and upgrade to that later.

First and second set is about 550 bucks. 3 and 4 are about 250 each. Maybe a little more I heard they have gone up slightly. (just like everything else)

I ran a 3 rib for 3 years with a 1915 and I was not nice to it  Finally broke the diff,It all depends on how you drive it dumping the clutch all the time when you take off is really hard on them,I have been through more reverse gears than anything! You could always go chaindrive then it would save alot of destruction

I left third and fourth gear stock in my 6 rib. Ijust don't hammer in those two gears and i saved some money.

I've got almost 4 years on my 3 rib with a 1915 and I drive the hell out of it. Just put reverse in it for the first time also. Depends I guess on the tranny to begin with. I have seen 3 ribs break on the first outing also. 091 you cant beat it and I would recommend it for your 2276

The 3-rib has 2 main weak points. The 3-ribs that have the "acorn" nuts behind the cv flanges are even worse as the pinion bearing setup inside is a very poor design. The first weakness is the first gear. This can be upgraded to the late style "super beetle" 9-tooth mainshaft (instead of the 10 tooth one that is normally in it). This will make 1st a lot stronger. The 2nd weak point is the ring and pinion and about 8 out of 10 I take apart are bad. I do not recommend a 3-rib for ANY abuse even with a small engine. I suggest either a 5 or 6-rib trans. For abuse, a superdiff and racing mainshaft are also needed.
