| Post subject: | 044s vs Comp Eliminators |
Didnt get too much response in my build thread so I figured I would post here. It seems as though 044s are on back order and the guy building my motor said he had a used set of Comp Eliminators in good shape. The motor is a 2180 with 48s. Not sure what cam. The car will probably be used 50/50 street/dirt. Most of my driving offroad will probably be med to fast paced in sand and dirt. Not too much hill climbing around here besides ditches. So my question is, do you think the Comp Eliminators will work for me? Or will they be too much? |

I heard that the more the flow does not always mean more power or torque on a woodsbuggy, but only means alot in drag racing. I have seen S/E heads perform better than Comp. heads, and seen Comp heads perform better than Superflows, then vice versa. It just depends on your setup. |

If it were a hot sand car then yes on the C/Es. They like WOT. Massive ports and not a lot of cooling fins. For a street or milder off road, 044s are the better choice then. Much better port velocity, better low, mid range. A lot more torque down lower. |

i agree with turbo, the s/e and the c/e castings have more mass with less cooling ability, and i think you can make a set of 044 flow just about as good with a little work |

| Post subject: | Small Spark Plugs |
I just bought a set of 044s from CB. I need to get a part number or a tip on where to get those itty bitty spark plugs??? It was a good idea to go smaller on the plugs but now I have a huge inventory of plugs that are too big. |

I have the comps on mine and I love them.Bigger ports may hurt bottom end, but I think that also this has to do with carbs. Mine has plenty of bottom with the FK-8. I have 44's on my 2387, but I bet 40's would probably run just as good and may even have more bottom end. The same goes with bigger valves. I have seen heads that had bigger valves BUT had small seats. You want just enough valve to cover the seat. Any more will shroud the valves and hurt performance, imo. Some companies advertise big valves but have the same seats as their smaller advertised valve heads.... |

I see that alot of you mentioned the cooling fins on the C/E heads. Do you think I will have problems with them getting too hot if I am idleing in traffic or going slow down a trail? I have to say that I am leaning toward the C/Es, even though the 044s are probably the best choice for my setup. Its just that the C/Es are available to me now, and I have waited long enough for this motor. |
