Post subject:  cam info for 2387
I have a 2387 with a fk8 cam, 1.4 ratio rockers and s/f heads.My motor will lug around fine. My problem is only in reaching power band in hard pulls in 2nd. I have a six rib with a faster first and a slower 2nd.I am changing my cam to a fk44, It has .547 lift and a 287 duration. Do you you think this will help my problem? Has anyone tried the fk44 cam?

That will help a little but the main reason for this is the S/F heads. IMHO

I agree w/ Roy. I have the same size motor , but with an Engle 110 & 1.4 rockers, and highest first and lowest second Weddle had available. I think our cams are somewhat comparable to each other. I had S/F's at first, because I got them in a deal. Motor felt strong enough upstairs, and would lug decent, but not the midrange pull I wanted. Switched to Street Eliminators and it made a helluva difference. But even still, in a 1350 (or so) lb. buggy, it still wont pull a steep,long hill in second without a running start. And doing that I cant get in and out of the throttle and expect RPMs to recover well w/o downshifting. Guys who climb badass hills in second usually have what is referred to as "second gear trannies" (6 ribs w/custom R&P and gears), and you need a healthy 2500 to pull one of them even.
I guess all that depends on what you are tryin to pull in second, too. :wink:

I am now running dual 44 webers with 38 venturies. If I change to 36's, will that help some with my problem?

The 36s will help speed up the Velocity at lower RPMs and that will increase your low end Torque. It lowers your top end however unless your concerned about 1/4 mile ETs I would not worry about it.

That will help it. I got Weber 44's and ordered the smallest vents I could get. Helped throttle response quite a bit. I think they are 34mm. Wont notice the loss at WOT in the woods.
