Post subject:  how do you break in your new motor????

Hey guys im just finishing up on my motor and was just wandering what was the best way to break in my motor every thing but the crank is brand new even the valve seats are new i want to do it right last time i put it together i jumped in it and took off side ways 1st 2nd and 3rd down the driveway !!! :lol:

Mine was brand new Scat engine & they suggested that you run it @ 2000rpms for 20 min.

You have to do that to break in the cam and lifters!!or you will have major problems down the road.

Thats usually how the directions that come with the cam say to do it to break in the cam and lifters!

Everyone probally has their own way of doing it , thats just what my paper work said to do, so I followed it. My engine has never given me any problems or smoked.
Before I bought my new engine I was always told to take it easy with the new ( rebuilt ) engine for the first 500 miles, for a woods buggy that might take awhile. Good luck with it Travis, let us know how it runs.

after the 20 min. break in let it cool down change the oil, and then run it how you want.

I agree with this but I always keep the rpm's under 3,500 for the first two or three days. Then let it rip.
