Post subject:  Lube A lobe Lifters
I was just wondering if anyone else has has a problem with oil pressure after installing these lifters. My motor used to hold 45 to 50 pounds of oil pressure hot and now only hold between 20 and 25. Everyone tells me its fine but that sure is a big drop in pressure. Any help would be greatl.

Is that 20 - 25 at an idle? If so, that is fine and I would not worry about it.

Like Roy said it is fine. I know several people that only have 10psi at idle. I think you are supposed to have 10lb for every 1000 rpm.

thanks for the input. I was just wondering if this was normal. All I did was freshen up my motor and the only change was those lifters, and 1.25 rockers.

I would think that your pressure would drop some with the lube-a-lifters. Your giving your oil 8 more passages to feed thru.

Well I knew I had a problem with my motor. Dont know what caused it but it eat #3 rod bearing up. All other bearings in the motor looked good, I think either the line bore on the case was to loose or the lifters was passing enough oil to suck the sump dry. I rebuilt the motor useing every thing the same but the lifters and the case. Any other ideas.

Did you plasti-guage the rods before fully assembling eng? the crank and rod could have been on the tight side and caused failer. Hard to say with out knowing how it was put together.

I have seen problems with a lot of Scat lifters..after a while they start "pitting" on the cam lobe side. I am not sure what is going on, but I have taken several engines apart that have not had very many hours on them and they pit. I have read/heard everything from hard cam castings, no zinc in oil ( supposed to use Rotella 15w40 for break-in), lifter material changes, incorrect breakins (BS_ I have tried every way), etc. This is probably not just Scat lifters, but I have seen both lal and non-lal lifters do this. I wonder where Scat lifters are made today? I am almost tempted to use the china ones.. probably won't be any worse. I have Webcam in mine, and it has been together for 4 years..whenever I take it apart, time will tell. I had Engle lifters in my street/race buggy for many years, and they looked like new. But then the engine was built over 10 years ago so who knows.

Webcam buys their lifters from Scat Eric.
Didn't know that when you got yours from me.
Never had an issue with them though.
Never used Scats either........ 8)

The diesel oils have little zinc in them these days.
Something about the stuff damaging the cat. converters..... :roll:
I use and sell this now for breaking in new engines.

Do you think this will cure the pitting problem? Have you ran into this yet? Quality is constantly changing nowadays it seems. It is all about the benjamins.

No I didnt gauge the rods because I went back with the same rods and crank that I was running before. I had everything checked and it all checked out fine. All I did was replace all of the bearings. My thrust in my old case was gone so I put my crank, rods, and cam in a different case. In my old case I kept around 50 to 60 psi oil pressure constantly. The only change I made was the case and lifters.

I haven't seen any issues as of the last couple years.
Have run into a fair amount of pitted lifters/trashed cams in the past on some customer engines I have torn down.
Unfortunately there was no way of identifying what lifters they were.
None were LAL.

I have bought two sets of main bearings from our local vw parts house that have been out of round and missed sized!!! Want to say they were mauley?--red and white box! Check and check and go back and recheck!!!!!!
