I have a 1600 Air Cooled VW Motor that I have been working on for a long time now. I have a Counterbalanced 8 Doweled Crank I bought in 1999. The project been put on hold for 15 years or so. My question is the 8 Dowel Flywheel that I bought in 2015 doesn't seem to fit. It measures like it should, but it doesn't slide on like I thought it would. I don't want to force anything, but it should fit regardless if they are bought 16 years apart. Or should they.?

They should be the same, nothing has changed that I know of. Remember there is a dowel that is offset ,so the flywheel will only go one in one position

Thanks for the info helmetguy I did not know that. This is my first flywheel
The offset must be minor because I kinda thought about that and looked for it and didn't see anything obvious. Is it Marked somewhere?

No its not marked , but yes difference is pretty small. For me its easier to see on the flywheel. Make sure you set your end play correctly, I think its .002-.006
