The pully at the crank keeps loosen itself. Can I lock tight this item. Can I bend pully while continuing to become loose. How tight or loose should the belt be. Rule of thumb answers I guess. Thank you. |

Yes we lock tight with red locktight at the crank, I have taken several back off with no problems, as far as the belt my rule of thumb is if It squeals when you stomp it ,its a Lil loose, but don't go crazy on tightening it, you will flip belts off Sent from my SCH-I545L using Tapatalk |

92 foot pounds is probably the recommended torque for the big pulley. If the bolt still comes loose, that is an indication of something else out of spec. 1) The big pulley is a press fit so that it does not pivot back and forth when the engine accelerates and then decelerates. 2) The woodruff key must also be a good fit in both the crank and the pulley. 3) Only use a stock VW bolt since it has a special shoulder that matches the pulley bore. Check that fit before you install the pulley! 4) Only use 1 washer at the big pulley bolt and be sure that all of the mating surfaces are smooth. The bolt hexes should not have any burrs or raised metal that can catch on the washer. 5) Before installing the pulley, run the bolt 3/4s into the crank and check for loose threads. If the bolt moves sloppy, you need a new bolt or have thread loss inside of the crankshaft. 6) When the pulley is fully seated, the end of the crankshaft must be below flush as per the original design. 7) Check that the fan and alternator shaft spins freely before installing the belt. Keep the battery fully charged to reduce alternator inductive drag. |

I still have wobble. I did all that stuff...changed woodryff key at alternater everything seems smooth and solid, untill i start motor. What do i do? I changed to brand new pulley. Still wobble. Worst case? |

Over the years i have seen this happen. The big pulley can flex and crack. No matter how many times that you straighten it, it is so weak that it just bends again. Throw it away and get another one. If the small pulley on the alternator or generator is wobbly, then that may have the same issue. Throw that away and get another one. Make sure that your top pulley is lined up with the bottom pulley. A new belt is also a good idea. If you still have a wobble, post the video on youtube and link it here. |
