I have installed an 8 pass oil cooler with no fan. I also have a cooler with temperature switch at 185 then a fan kicks on ( not installed). I have upgraded my 1835 to a 2275 I realize the new engine will run hotter....should I add the cooler with the fan and have both coolers or leave it alone and just run the 8 pass. Or install the cooler with fan and get rid of 8 pass. Or none of the above.

Since there are situations where you
will not want ANY oil flowing through
ANY cooler at all, you may want to read
this thread:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=469077
There is discussion about thermostatically-
controlled oil cooler bypass plumbing.
Here is the "sandwich" type:
http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Mocal-Ther ... dapter.htm
It is also mentioned that cylinder head temp
is critical. I have always wondered if cooled
oil should be directly routed to the heads
somehow??? It works well on Harley-Davidson
air-cooled motorcycle engines.
