You can be somewhat creative with this. For example a 3/8 extension(slid into crank hole/pilot bearing) and a 1/2 drive socket with a tapered end that will partially slide into your disc and slide over the extension. Or anything similar you have lying around that might work.

Don't have extra shaft. I've tried the 3/8 extension and socket, measured with calipers. Nothing works. I guess it's hitting on the gland nut. If it's off it couldn't be more than a billionth of an inch. Guess I'll try Small Fry tomorrow for an alignment tool even though he's not the friendliest to deal with.

Are the lower holes in the bell housing lined up with the holes in the Trans mount? I've fought with getting a motor to slide on before only to realize that the lower engine studs were hitting the mount.

Sometimes you just have to keep wiggling the motor around until it finally goes on. Try rotating the engine while wiggling it also. I've put clutches in just by eyeballing it so I don't think you have it perfectly aligned. I do have an old trans shaft that I use now.

Another tip is to chase the threads of the lower engine studs and their nuts with a tap and die so that the nuts spin on easy so that you don't need to wrench so much once the motor is on. It takes a lot on small throws of a wrench to tighten the lower nuts if you cant spin them with one fingertip.

In a pinch, you can grind down a late distributor
drive to make a clutch alignment tool.
