I came across one of these and not real sure about it. I believe its a Type 3. But, I spun a Bearing on my 1915 & Now Wondering if, I could build this Single Relieve to a 1915.

Most single relief cases have the smaller
oil galleys that feed oil to the lifters and main
bearings.
It is probably OK to use for 1915 if you
keep the oil pressure up, don't use the VW
screen on the oil pickup and go full flow.
The stock oil pump and cooler is probably
not a good idea, especially when the oil
is cold.
As VW cases get more scarce, you will see
more single relief cases being rebuilt.
I am surprised that there are not more
writings about how to build a reliable single
relief (warm weather use only).

Is it possible to inlarge the oil galleys? Or would that even help?

I been lurking, waiting to hear a reply because i use a single relief case with a 2276. I was actually going to get an aluminum case when it was rebuilt but the builder said it would be fine.. he showed me where it had big oil galleys and had already been clearanced for a big crank. It wasnt a hack job either and it holds great oil psi. The whole reason for the rebuilt was spun rod bearings... it looked like the rod caps where mismatched because it spun #1 and #4 and that was the bad rods. Ive always heard dual relief is all you want to build, but the man says it will be fine.. all i can do is keep my fingers crossed and ride on 8)

"H" case info:

I have also seen "H" case cracking.
The case cracked all of the way from a spigot
hole to halfway across the top of the case
half.
It was a fresh line bore too.

Alot of good info in that thread. Ill have to look on mine and see what the numbers are... i do know that mine has case savers and hardened head studs but im not sure about the rest... kind of turns my stomach knowing that i have alot of good parts in what may be a junk case :|

It is a type 3 case, 68-69 and 70. They have the cross member bosses by the oil pump.
You have to scrape away every bit of grease to look
for the relief plugs. Lots of dirt and grease collects around
the plugs. They are easy to miss.
