I have a 1776 and im running a solex right now and its just not enough carb for it. I was wondering what carb would be best for it. I have been told a progressive would work but other guys say those aren't really big enough either. Any suggestions??

I think it was 350. For intake and all. But your gonna want to change the throttle linkage and add jet doctors at least

put a 36 on it ! you will drown your motor and wash the oil out of your rings. un burnt gas dilutes your oil. I love young guys that are here to pass on the tradition.

I'll drop it past this point. A 36 will be best for your 1776. You will be happy with a 40 but a 36 will be ideal. You will thank me later if you do. I ran a 36 on my 2024 all thru the 90's at Chilton county and it ruled. It had excellent top end, killer bottom end and instant recovery. Zero bog.

go with a single or dual 40s....if you jet n tune right you wont have any problems...and you already have the good stuff if you want to go bigger on motor

A 40 will work fine if you change the chokes in it to make it smaller. Basically you will install smaller venturis in it. This will size the thing for your smaller displacement engine and make it respond correctly. Dual 40's would be much better than a single if you can afford it.

you can make about any carb work with the correct jetting and tuning, single or dual. Another key thing to watch is venturi size. Too big and bottom end response will suffer, too small and it will overfuel at high rpm and either way you cannot jet it properly. I used to run a 1776 with dual 34 ICT's that ran great. Generally the more carb you put on the more difficult it will be to get good bottom end response. Too much is as bad or worse that too small. Best bet is to do what you are doing here, see what other guys are running with your engine size, cam, etc. Good Luck, lots of options out there.
