my 1776 cranks slow, good battery , good power to starter. Gonna put new starter in it this weekend, got one coming from carquest for $40. Anyone ever have this problem with their starter? Wont crank fast enough to get enough spark to fire.

Sounds like your timing is off.

Does your starter have a nose bushing? They were out and will cause drag But in you have a automatic starter or High torx it dont use a nose bushing ...Or like Brad said may be a timing thing

I have had the same issue when I had a short in my starter. I have also had that happen when I did not have a good ground.

Is your ground cable from your battery grounded directly to the starter bolt? If not, this could be your problem, just a bad ground. Try running a heavy jumper wire from the negative side of the battery to the starter bolts, see if it makes a difference. Change out the bushing in the bellhousing, this is a common problem. Take the starter apart and clean out all the rust and mud, lubricate it while you are in there.

I had already checked all the power and grounds. put new starter in her Friday and it started right up. :D Now just need to adjust the valve lash, put new push rod seals in and replace the rubber brake hoses (dry rotted and leaking) and its ready to be ripped on

Check the motor on the starter and make sure it is tight. I had the same problem on one of my buggies and that's what it ended up being.
