trying to limit my advance curve. my engine runs good low-mid rpm when i set my idle timing at 10 degrees but that takes my max timing to almost 40 degrees. my mechanical advance sweeps 28 degrees if i could limit that to 20 degrees i could achieve what i need. i have a petronix 009 distributor anyone know a way to limit the timing advance in these?

If your wanting 30 degrees advance , set your timing on 30 degrees @ 3000 rpm & then you may or may not have to adjust you carb or carbs up or down to reach the area of 10 , but the only way to limit a 009 is to do it this way I think , if someone knows different , maybe they will chime in !

ok what do you mean by adjusting carbs to change timing? do you mean raising my idle?

maybe I should explain my problem better. first gear is fine but 2nd gear if im lower than 2000 rpms and I mat the throttle it just falls on its face and stumbles till it gets above 2000 rpms. I mostly trail ride so this is important id rather fix this problem then trail ride in 1st gear at 4000 rpms. im fairly certain my issue is not carb setup because like I said if I bump my timing way up it runs great but don't want to be at 40 btdc when im at 3000 rpms or more.

I guess I should post my specs so you know. 1915, 044 heads, c35 cam, 10.5:1 compression, dual 40 kadron carbs (tuned by kaddie shack)

everything I read says youll have a flat spot if you use these carbs with an 009 distributor but this seems to be more than just a flat spot its a DEAD spot.

Everything has to be in sink. I don't like the electronic ignition , IMO I went back to points and solved a lot of problems.good luck

If you want to limit the amount of advance in the distributor you will have to take it apart and bend the advance stop. I would be careful running a lot of timing at low RPM with that much compression.
