Was going to start gasket matching my intake manifolds today and found another reason to not buy empi shit. Put my gasket up to the manifold to draw the line and found a serious casting shift problem. The intake ports are off center about a quarter inch. Anyone around Columbus have a tig welder to fill these in a little bit so I can match them to the heads?

Why not just open the heads to match instead of trying to weld the port in the intakes up?

I don't plan on keeping these carbs forever I eventually plan on moving up to Weber 40's. I don't want to match $800 dollars worth of heads to these kadrons.

I'm 1st in line to hate empi. I watched a tv show on Why do Chinese build crap. A foreigner walks up to a Chinese businessman and says , here build this to these specs so I can save mega $. i.e. an EMPI rod. He out sources it to a dozen mom n pop shops. Wong Wun does not buy the right steel alloy grade. Wong Way may have a lathe that ain't true. Long ding Dong does not do a pressure test on alllll of them. Yer motor slings a part. Rod goes thru block. Does Mr. Empi buy us new C.B. heads, blocks new oil, gaskets etc etc? Is Mr. Empi there to pull you out of the woods and put you back on the trailer? Stop eating out of Empi's hands. Passat eats out of junk yards looking for old German quality. Does it climb? Ask the witnesses. E.M.P.I. Every Motor Part is _______ .fill in the blank.

I would re-locate the two bolt holes as far as I could first. In fact I would build up the outside of the flange to move the bolt holes where they need to be before I would weld up the runner.

Hogging them out would require hogging and my heads too. I'm a little Leary on masacuring a set of $800 heads. I swallowed my pride and realized this is above my talent and equipment level I dropped them off at a welding shop today. Thanks to the guys that offered there help but this welding shop charged me less than what it would take to ship/drive these things back and forth.
