I am currently thinking about building a two seater buggy and I like to do hills, jumps, and wheelies. I am going to use a sandfox frame but I'm not sure whether I should go with a 1641cc VW engine with a scat cam or a 1915cc engine with dual carbs, also with a scat cam. I am fairly new to the VW engines and would appreciate any information. I am new to the forums and would like to learn more about VW buggies.

go with a 1915, this will let you climb about any hill that you want and still work well on the trail.
i currently have a 1641 and you just don't have the recovery on a hill if you need it.
so that's why i am going to go with at least 1915 my self wither it be running duals or a single carb.

What about an 1835cc or 1776cc? Just wondering because I've also looked into those 2 sizes as well. I ride most in Trevorton and St.Clair, don't know if that would be a factor in what size engine to select.

bigger is better 1915 is a good one i ran one for years. what transmission are you running.

I am not sure of your situation and funds or fabricating skills but I would suggest buying a Buggy that has already been built rather than building a new one.

As for engines, I would suggest an 1835 or go all the way to a 2276. Remember, most power comes more cost. Not only in the engine but the Transmission, CV Joints, Axles, Etc....

An 1835 with a 3 rib trans is a reliable setup and works perfectly with tractor tires or small boggers.

I am getting some help with fabricating skills from my dad and my brother. They have buggies and I am saving up money to buy a sandfox frame. I have other funds for the engine, trans, tires and wheels, etc.

I was running a 1600 with a 3 rib with no issue but now I'm running a 2276 with a 6 rib with out a issue yet and like Mickey Mouse said bigger u go to bigger ur pockets

I ran an 1835 for years with a stock 3 rib and did not have any issues. However, driving style can break anything and everything. You still need to pay attention to what you are doing..

Ecotec ya no more tuning carbs cleaning jets and listening to lifters tap! For half the money you spend on VW aftermarket cranks rods cams and heads you can do a Ecotec that was the best investment I ever did to my buggy.

thank you guys for all of the input. I will look into the 1835cc with a 3 rib setup and i'll also check out the 2276cc with a 6 rib setup. Like i said before, I am new to VW buggies and am treating the build like a learning process.
