Hi,

I have two dune buggies that I recently rebuild the carbs. Both are 1600, dp and 34 PICT carb. I did the prilaminary carb setting but I can't get them right. Is anyone close to Remlap, AL that can come by and give me a hand? I will provide beer and/or pay you. I just don't want to tote these to a mechanic that will take days to get it done.

The throttle shaft bushings wear out and there is no fix to my knowledge. And another reason they won't idle is that gold cylinder thing on the side.( The anti-dieseling valve). Pull it off and plug it or clip the copper thing off and put it back in.

When I first bought my first buggy that had the 1600 with a solex pic 34. I was advised to throw it away and get dual carbs or a better single carb set up. That trying to fix and work on the carbs would drive me crazy trying to adjust and trail ride with them flooding out and all that.
If I could help you with it I would, but never messed with them.

Thanks. I do have a 40mm empi carb that I can install but I wonder which one is a better paper weight tool. From different sources on the net, the 40 mm is garbage too.

Have you tried running some diesel in it. That could be your problem.

I had dual empi not a single but they seemed to work good for me if ya have it your not out anything to give it a try besides a few dollars in jets if it isn't jetted for that motor yet you'll like it better than that stock 34

Im running dual weber 40 if carbs and haven't had any issues other than the typical trash everyone in a while.

Speaking of which, when I rebuild the 34 Pict carb the floater was messed up and almost 2 quarts of gas when down the carb. I fixed the float, replaced the oil, wired a universal switch and she started right up. I still need to install the master cylinder, replace the two rear hoses, check the wheel cylinder and re-bleed. That is the 2 seater and I will be driving it this weekend.

I'll give the 4 seater another try tomorrow. Set the valve lash, point, put new plugs and if it still pops and backfires I'll install the empi.

Finally my uncle came by and got both rails tuned. Both had 34 pic-3 carb but the 2 seater had problems with the floater as it was not getting enough gas. We hooked up the 40mm carb and she now idles and revs pretty nice. The 4 seater also idles and and revs great. I just need to rig the throttle cable for the 2 seater and put a stop on the clutch of the 4 seater to take them for a spin. Hopefully I can get it done by tomorrow or Friday.

If you know anyone around BHM that can fine tune the carbs and setup the timing with a dwell/timing light, for a decent price, please PM me. We got them set old school style, lol, but I reckon there's room for improvement.

If it's an old solex I'd check the butterfly bushings for sloppy intake leaks regardless if you riched it up with any tinkering. Carl: I tinkered with it a timer 2.. umhmm.
