Do you have a bad condenser on the distributor? Check the coil hot lead to see if it has a loose connection or a break in the insulation causing it to ground out. I would also check to make sure you have a good ground from the chassis to the engine and transmission.

Make sure your hooked up to the ign. Terminal and not the acc. Terminal. The acc. Power is cut during cranking.

Double check your ign. Switch is hooked up correctly. Check for presence and amount of voltage to the coil during cranking.

jump power from your alternator to the coil and see if it fires up. If it does the replace your switch or check wiring.

that's exactly why I hate ignition switches, cant find one worth a shit anymore due to all the "china" crap

all I ever use anymore is a toggle switch and push button

I run my switch to a lawn tractor starter solenoid. Then that solenoid powers the actual starter solenoid. Keeps the amps down in the switch.

X2 on the short. It would pretty much have to be the coil. Man you got some shitty luck :|

I watched a tv program a few weeks ago about Chinese products. It starts off like this. An American businessman wants for example a hammer built to his specs. He believes there will be a huge profit margin made since they work for a dollar a day per say. The Chinese businessman takes the order and subcontracts the steel(cast), the wood handle and the rubber grip to mom and pop companies and by then what ever shows up at the assembly plant goes to America. They said there is no control in the organization like that. And no quality assurance. I went thru he!! backwards trying to diagnose the Passat and it had a bad spark plug wire out of the box. 6 wires for $50. Made somewhere in a far off land. Got the wires off an old Passat junkyard motor with old German wires and Wuuuubow! I HATE CHINESE products. LOOK b4 u buy!
