Should the heater outlets be plugged or just screen on them to keep the critters out? Mine are blocked off now but it seems it would cool better if they are open getting some of that hot air out?

Leave them blocked it helps to keep cooler by forcing the air around the jugs if you remove them it doesn't force the air it allows it to escape.
