That's the nice thing about McMaster Carr. In most cases, you order something by 3 o'clock Monday, it's at your door the next day.

cant get these things to idle to save my life  what are you guys setting your idle at? I cant get this thing to stay running under 1000 rpms but thats with the volume screws turned so far up that the idle mix screw is doing nothing. my guess is a thorough cleaning but i dont want to rip these apart until ive got some good jets to match my motor. anyone run dual kadrons? any sugestions on a starting point for jets?

Dude I wouldn't get to crazy changing things until you get your new distributor and get your timing setup. I know you are intelligent in engines so this will be no surprise but let it cool and check your valve lash as it is going to change as everything get worn in. Try not to change to many things at one time. The kadron's are real simple carbs and there are some real tricks to getting them to run great.

If they are an older set you will want to extend the vent tube to the fuel bowl, the second important thing to check is if the throttle have excess play and are causing a vacuum leak.

You will find that the idle will increase as the engine temp reaches operating temp since the linkage runs from side to side the growth of the engine due to thermal expansion causes the idle speed to increase. It is very important to sync the carbs once it is up to temp with at least one end of the linkage removed so the changes are any happening at the carb you are adjusting.

Lastly make sure you are running under 2 lbs of fuel pressure. I have run Kadron carbs with limited success, I ran them for a year and then got a set of 40 dells that were new in the box. Set them up by the tech box, synced them and never messed with them, other than to clean a jet prior to the fitting of a jet doctor kit.

I know I have ribbed you in the past but I am just glad to see you making progress toward getting it out in the woods.

Did you have coffee and doughnuts with the PD?

You need to set the fuel pressure at 1.75psi +- .25. They run best with a vacuum advanced dizzy. Fuel pressure will cause some weird problems with Kads. AJ built mine and Kaddie Shack redid the jets for my 1915. They wont tell me what size jets or anything, its their secrete. If you tell Kaddie Shack what your engine specs are Jeff will sell you the right jets.

No didn't have any doughnuts. The police officer learned very quickly I know my rights and I was well within them. It was pretty funny watching him get more and more nervous as he ran out of anything intelligent to say.

I am glad you straightened them out!

Sounds like when I was in the process of a divorce and the misses showed up with a moving truck with law enforcement. The officer told me she was going to get stuff out of the house. Per my attorneys advice I requested that she produce a court order, following that not a word from either the misses or the officer as he escorted her from the property.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll give kaddie shack a call.

I'm running a stock fuel pump anyone got any suggestions on a good regulator? I can't seem to find one that goes bellow 3 psi.

Don't worry barron I can take a good ribbing. I'm pretty good at learning the hidden lesson behind a good ribbing too

You don't need a regulator for a stock pump. If your pressure is too high you can shim the pump up with gaskets or take a little off the pushrod.

got my distributer in today. petronix 009 style. very impressed with the quality of this distributor.

bad: distibutor/case o ring was too big had to use my old one.

good: everything else. excellent quality. hall effect switch instead of the button sticking out. timing curve was perfect. total advance at 2500 rpm my 30 total advance drops to about 8 at 800 rpm and a smooth transition.

this got me a little better idle and part throttle but still not good so i tore into the carbs.

they were pretty dirty in the bowls so i tore them completely apart. my idle jets were a 65 in one and a 55 in the other (according to the numbers stamped). one idle jet was completely clogged with crap. cleaned the 55 and took a 55 out of my old 34 pict. main jets both 130 which sounds about right for a 28 venturi. one of acellerator pumps had the adjustment way out it was halfway through its motion at closed throttle. put a small nut under the adjuster nut to get it adjusted correctly. gaskets were still good so reused them. filters were full of crap. couldnt find anywhere how to adjust the floats so i just tried to make them even.

put them back together and back on the motor and set the linkage one turn out so it would be close to right once the motor warmed up. went ahead and added a balance tube between the manifolds because i dont like this linkage. once the bowls filled up it popped right off and idled pretty damn good. made some adjustments as it warmed up and got it to idle great (considering cam). haven't drove it yet but just wrapping the throttle up it runs great and no hesitation.

let it warm up and took a short ride. much much much better i can actually drive around below 2500 rpm now.
still not completely happy though. it seems to want to lag and struggle a little bellow about 2000 rpm. once it hits about 2200 its like a switch is flipped on and it comes on much stronger. gonna order a set of 60 idle jets to see if it helps. gonna get a carb syncronyzer too im sure that will help alot. once this things runnin on the main jets wide open its scary fast but may go ahead and bump up to 30 or 32 venturi too 8)

after going through 2 sets of plugs (fouling) and struggling with poor low rpm performance for a weekend I decided to order some jets and rebuild kit. ordered a custom jet package from the kaddie shack. not sure what im getting but from what I have read this guys on the money every time.

want to extend my bowl vent to. can I just jam some metal fuel line in the hole and be done with it or is there more to it than that?

I just used a rubber hose but anything will work to keep fuel from spilling

Yes, I used a fuel hose but its what I had. A zip tie to the air filter rod works well

Jeff from kaddie shack called me today. he told me these carbs would never work right for my combo with the stock 28mm venturis. He wouldnt even sell me the jets. He talked me into 32mm venturis to make these work perfect. I still dont know what size jets im getting but was promised it would run top notch. I guess ill know in a week or 2.
