Currently I have dual Weber 44's on street eliminator heads. I am wanting to replace them with EMPIs however my intakes are ported and polished and I wasn't wanting to get rid of them. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not EMPI's would bolt up to the intakes that I have? Or do I have to replace the intakes too? |

if they are the same type carb such as "IDF" then yes they will interchange, but personally I would much rather have a used weber than a new empi |

Dude, April Fools was a few weeks ago. Rebuild and tune the Webers, or be prepared for a long trail of headaches. |

I have bought 2 sets of Empi Carbs and they worked really good .Got a set on a 2500 now and it runs great Empi does have a lot of junk parts out there tho. Like they said if you got the webers rebuild them . a lot of people run the Empi carbs and like them it's all in the tuning . Not trying to sell you on Empi just saying i have used both . |

I'm still new to all things vw. Also, the webers are killed beyond just being able to rebuild them i believe, however I do plan on keeping them and possibly having someone rebuild them that knows how to (I don't). |

Jeffclay, MickeyMouse, MadMike. I have heard a few bad things about EMPI's but most of it has come from what I've read on this site. However, all of my friends that I ride with are running EMPI's and they all work fine. SO far my Webers have been the headache. |

The empi hpmx carbs are fine. In fact several of the big time engine builders including ACE who does primarily carb work says that the EMPI carbs are BETTER than the webers. I have built many engines using the empi carbs and they run fine. |

If you are going to buy the EMPI carbs PM me and I will buy your Webers. When you receive your new carbs take them apart and check the jetting. I have seen duals shipped with different jets in the same carburetor and different jets in each carb in a set of duals. The best resource for dual carbs be it Dells or Webber or Empi the Dellorto tech book is great for pre-tunning them before installation and for jetting charts and trouble shooting information. And a Syntonization tool for getting the carbs synced. I ran the same set of 48 Dellortos for almost 20 years on a 1976, 2276 and a 2800 914 engine never any problems following initial set up. |

Got a bran new pair of empi 44 duals. Junk right out of the box. U can't compare a weber to an empi . So the empis are on the shelf and webers is all that is here. |

Tear the webers down, boil them, then get rebuild kits. They cant be that bad. When I bought mine they showed up and the insides looked like that had been laying in a mud pit for 20yrs. Good cleaning an rebuild youll be fine. your going to havta tear the empi's apart and clean them soon as ya getm anyways. |

WOW. Thats why I'm looking to just get a set of EMPI's. I'd be paying about the same price. I was hoping you'd say around $100 lol |

thats what i thought at first, unfortunately big names call for big $$$.. ACE is a well reputed and established company, no doubts that you are definitely getting what you pay for |

500 dollars to rebuild carbs? Buy an echo tech, subie or Honda you will have less in a complete engine than you will in a set of carbs. Or better yet a Holley projection two barrel on a custom tunnel ram intake. |
