ok my carbs have always done this. first of all last week we completly broke them down and cleaned them up they run like a champ if im on top end but if im lugging up a hill and decide to get on it they wont pick up it just is verry slugish and never gets going what could cause this also they are dual webber 40's i believe my main jets are 50's

Give more info on motor. If the carbs idle and run good I would look at other areas before condemning the carbs.

well my thought is the idles may be overdoing it on the fuel may need to change them the motor has a 80 crank 94 pistons cb044 heads 110 cam all i know about it

check fuel pressure then float levels. I believe you want around 3 psi... NO MORE!!! I always run the floats as low as possible. keep lowering them then run the buggy hard for as long as you can to see if you run out. once you run out, raise them up a little and leave em there.

it aint the gears and tires its in the carb it also smokes black so that would be to much fuel right i think its over loading it on bottom it has 50 idles so im gonna try some 45s and 40s

he will get it figured out, sounds like he already knows whats wrong with it even though he was asking for advice and ignoring what everybody is telling him, i was gonna say the same as aaron but figured it would fall on deff ears

reason i dont feel its tires and trans cause i ran a lower gear befor and still did this i appreceate any suggestion just talked it over with a friend and we thinking iddle jetts may not be but gonna see and i dont think i have ignored anyone also float lvls could be it i know last long hill i was on it would loose its go on a long pull

if you know, then why ask same issue with your other buggy.. if you get it going and then gas it, it "runs like a champ on top" but if you lug up on a hill and then gas it "it sputters"... put a car in second gear, and try to take off on a hill, its gunna sputter.. same car, on the same hill with a little bit of a run and second gear will pull fine ... its the same principle

i dont know thats why i ask lol i just said what i think it might be but want evry suggestion i can get but when i had the lower geared trans in it still did this so thats why im not thinking its my trans/tires and its not a sputter it just never gets the rpms up on bottom unless i turn it up befor i hit the hill

seriously its gonna take a BIGGER motor AND a REGEARED (not just a lower r&p) tranny to even think about doing what you want with that big of a tire and a buggy that heavy

Was the lower geared tranny a 4.83. If so thats not enough. To fix your problem you need a 4.10 or 4.25 first gear witha 5.42 ring and pinion and that will fix the problem.

I dont see how youd need 45 idles i ran 50'd on my 1915 with dual 40's

The 45s cleared up alot of the black smoke that it had on bottom dont have a hill to test it on so will have to wait and kevin that setup is my goal im putting back money to buy what I need for the trans

Check your air mixture screews. If you have them adjusted more than 4 turns out to get it to run your idle jets are not big enough. Borrow some 60,s and readjust your air mixture screws. Float levels have to be correct. Black smoke could be too much pump shot.

Accelerator pump is what he is talking about. Have you checked your timing and distributor to make sure the weights are swinging out.

Lastly check for vacuum leaks with some WD

If you have 40's maybe your venturis are too small. Maybe not. Do you know what they are?

Having small venturis will cause it to run rich. (not enough air)
