I currently have an 1835 and I'm wanting some more power. However I want to stay cheap, so if I were to buy a 74mm flywheel can I stay with my rods and pistons and not machine the block

I think you mean crank shaft. the answer is yes, you can go up to 76 Millimeter. You will need to shim the jugs/ cylinders out for proper deck height and compression. I ran a 1976cc engine very strong running engine. Check your current end play or get it checked if it is in specs then you will make a good investment with crank, bearings, seals and you may re-ring it depending on condition of the old ones. If you are doing his you may decide to go with a more aggressive cam.

You may have to do some light clearancing in the block. If your looking for more torque you should look into a smaller cam and stay with the single carb. 44mm carbs are pretty big for an engine of that size. What heads do you currently have?
