I am planning a 2332 build. I have a set of 042 (40x35.5) non ported heads, and a set of 45 dells to start with. I do not know what cam to run ? Also looking at 12:1 comp. any build ideas?
Buggy specs:
31x15.50 tires

Not sure on weight 95" two seat frame

Just saw a 2332 on www.glamisdunes.com for $3500. Probably not a terrible deal considering what it would cost to build it completely. May check the samba, race dezert and other sites for deals before building one.

That's a lot of compression . I got a c45 cam from scat and like it in my 2276. Not to be mean but I think u will gernade that 3 rib unless its fully weddle. Just my opinion. Depends on how mean you are to it

I have a fk87 cam ,1.4 rockers , 9.5:1 compression and 5.5 H beam rods and love it. Some say the compression is a little low, but it runs good with a holley 500 cfm 2 barrel carb.

I forgot to add cb 044 heads. Good luck with the build.

I made it out of a progressive carb intake. Got the idea from dave hix. He has pictures of what he made on here somewhere.

How does that carb handle sidehills/hill climbing. Any flooding issues

Or that^^^

Well said Gary. And for the money I don't know if you can even come close to building that same engine yourself.

yep, and in my opinion for only $20 more i would go ahead and get a 86mm stroke crank unless you already have the 84

Not a bad idea but will my heads support that size of motor and still run good?

imo the valves are a little small for even a 2332, do they have any port work?

regardless, heads are an easy upgrade down the road without having to split the case and can be done with the engine still on the buggy

They are chinese 042 they look to have larger ports cast in. They have dual springs with chromeoly retainers and stainless valves i got from a local source. I can post pics when i get them back from being cut. I just want to make sure i dont pick the wrong cam that would not work with bigger heads . i am thinking about a fk43 and 1.4 rockers

That would be a good cam but I would still port the heads if at all possible. 12:1 is WAY too high for compression. 10:1 would be good but you will still need to mix race gas and premium to control detonation.

That would suck to try and mix gas every time you filled up. If your shooting for max HP for your combo go 12:1 if not 9-9.5:1 on pump gas  ... 12:1 would be worth 10-15 more hp prob around 140 hp @ 12:1 with dual carbs

That's what I was thinking I already run 100LL in my 1835(10:1) Is there any major downsides to running high comp.

You need to match the compression to the cam your going to use.If you use the FK-43 I would recommend no more than 10:1. To run really high compression you need a long duration cam to bleed off some cylinder pressure.100LL aviation gas won't support 12:1 compression and actually isn't intended for use as a performance fuel. It is really intended for low rpm engines. I feel you could get away with using that fuel with 10:1 but I would add a little marvel mystery oil to it because it does'nt have any good top end lubricants in it.The gains from 10:1 up to 12:1 are only 4.5%. Higher compression leads to higher operating temps and accelerated wear.If it were a race engine I would say go for it,but in a woodsbuggy its senseless in my opinion.

X2 The fk43 works good for me with 10.3 to 1 and dual 44 carbs with ported S/E heads and 100 octane gas. They will not sell AV gas around here with out tail numbers and name.
