Are lifters a common failing issue on vw's ?
I never saw them come apart unless their was a explosion on the inside .
But then again I never built a high dollar vw !

well if not broke in properly it causes a major problem right off the get go, But the more I read online theres horror stories about all lifters except these lol. The difference is in the hardening process blahg blah blah . Buy these- No break in, Never buy lifters again- Supposedly.

But last time I was up at Jims- I was told by them that I could buy the Empi lifters he has sitting there and I would have no more or less worries than if I bought something else - say scat , cb, bugpack, etc...

http://www.mofoco.com/item/EMPI_21_4300 ... 8/363/c144

If you read on this page where Empi lifters are for sale, It says- Note: Installation with Engle Cams is required to maintain Camshaft warranty

So to maintain the warranty on my engle cam I should use empi lifters? lol So engle clearly has no problem with them? ey?

They are a very nice piece, but in my opinion its overkill. If you were gonna be swapping cams left and right or running crazy RPM and spring pressure I would say go for it.

i had a problem with a brand new lifters and cam set...engle and engle...during break in i had on rocker keep getting loose...after about 3 10 minute runs it had ate the lifter alive....called k1 where i bought them and he said 1 out of every 100 cam/lifter combos that they sell,fails...no matter what the combo...engle/engle...engle/scat...etc. anyway he said as long as i used the zinc infused break in oil, which i did, that engle would do an exchange also k1 said he would sell me whatever parts i needed to fix motor at discount if it did do any other damage. rons machine in dayton also offered to remachine any parts for free for me if needed,,,engle gave me no probs and sent me new cam and lifters and i ended up sending block to brothers in cali to have lifter bores sleeved...its been running like a beast ever since

no the lifter bores were ok but figutred it was cheap insurance on a motor i planned on keeping....they said the problem is metalergy(may not have spelled that right) the lifters were too soft they wore evenly...unlike bad bore which from what ive heard will just dif a big groove

i hope yall the best of luck with those empi lifters :|

here are some alternatives to the udo becker lifters and they are supposed to be 100% made in the USA
http://www.4secondsflat.com/Volkswagon% ... ifters.htm

also the slr lifters with the parkerized coating is supposed to last, or you can send your own lifters and they will do the mod to them

I just built an engine for myself using an Engle cam and lifter combo. The engine is back apart now for some oiling modifications but the cam/lifters look great.I even broke it in with heavy dual springs. Use Brad Penn 30wt break in oil.
