| Post subject: | question on new oil pump |
Just installed a new oil pump with the fittings to pump oil to my aftermarket filters. Question is it seems that it does not fit snug enough in the block to seal the ports on each side. Won't this cause a loss of pressure? Just seems like it should fit very snug to seal against the ports. Like I should have to tap it into place with a dead blow hammer? It is an empi pump I just purchased from Chirco. |

Yes the pump should fit fairly tight in the bore. If it does'nt it will suck in air on the pickup side and and bleed off pressure on the outlet. |

So Empi does not make good stuff? Won't buy anymore. Just needed a pump to direct oil to filters. Block is not a full flow block and leaving doghouse cooler. Does the oil pump on these usually slip right in or do you usually have to press it to say into block? |

A new oil pump should have to be tapped into the block with a dead blow or a piece of wood and a hammer. I always leave the case half bolts loose in the oil pump area, install the pump, then torque the case halfs after it's driven home. Even doing it this way it should still fit tight. If you have a pump that fits loose, I would get my money back. Do not use it. |
