Kind of a generic question, but how often do you guys check your valves? Maybe mention what heads, cam, etc. you're running. I know I did mine this spring, and maybe have 6 or 7 rides on them... I have 2276 with Los Panchitos or Banditos heads with extra work done, dual springs, 40 x 35.5 valves (I think?, been awhile), 110 cam, 1.25 rockers, chromoly pushrods. I'd guess your combination here plays a part in this.

2387 fk42 s/f 1.4 set on zero.just enough to let the push rods spin.check every now then or if start getting noisy on a new motor after 1st run.got a 1641 110 042 heads stock rockers, adjust all the freaking time, lol.Chad

I would adjust them at least every couple rides. It does'nt take that long and you may catch a problem before it gets out of hand. Adjust them with the engine cold. Set them at zero lash just so the pushrod will spin.

I check them about once a month but one need to adjust them once or twice a season.

With a wc i would constantly check for coolant leaks and be worried to dip it in the water

I am with Mouse, I would check them frequently (once a month) and adjust them three or four times a year. Since I went to the dark side I have only adjusted my valves once at 135,000 miles. Show me a stroked AC that will last 135,000 miles then I can show you how to install a leak free cooling system. Good hoses and American made hose clamps (Tennessee) from Amazon hose tighten and it's leak free.

What the AC guys never mention is that the WC cars don't leak oil like a VW. I think Daryl can build you one that is fuel injected and does not leak. It's a freak of nature though.

My land yacht only weighs in at 1750 lbs and most Aluminum block WC engines weigh no more than 50 lbs more than their AC counterparts. Hey I get it some people like apples and some like oranges. Oh by the way I think you need to empty your drip pan under your car. your probably down a quart since this thread was started. Look at the bright side you don't have to change it as often if it all leaks out.

Even Harley went water cooled. Now if we are going to talk motorcycles the best ever built in America was the Indian hands down. I agree as a previous VW air cooled purist it is a bit sacrilegious but like anything in the Obamanomics world, more horse power per dollar and when you turn the key they just fire right up. Thats why we have choices.

God I miss threads like this with a little back and forth digging. And guys, once I finish replacing all the VW parts with GM and after market I may find time to work on the engine. Just not sure what I would mess with?
