hi guys, i just bought a buggy and completely rebuilt everything and then got to the motor last. i wanted to check the valve clearance on my 1915 and did all of the proper procedures for adjusting the valves and when i got to #2 cylinder exhaust valve i noticed that even when i back the screw as far as it will go it still does not release itself from the spring, and then happened again on #3 and 4 cylinders. they were all super tight when i got to them. there were only 3 valves that i was able to get the .006 clearance i was looking for. Does this tell me that they started stretching too much and are in need of replacement? if so, what would be my next step? im pretty mechanically inclined but i think i would rather leave that job to a professional. any help, advice, suggestions are appreciated! |

was the motor running to begin with? how did you go about adjusting the valves, kinda sounds like you didnt do something quite right, however if everything was done right and only 3 out of 8 would adjust id say the heads are gonna need to be rebuilt but thats just my opinion based on the info you gave |

Start all over and make sure that you start on number 1 on the exhaust stroke tdc.sounds like you was on the intake stroke or you wasn't going in the correct firing order.pull the plug on #1 put your finger over the plug hole and roll over til you feel compression pushing your finger off.then set piston tdc.adjust valves.turn motor Ccw 180 and set #2.Ccw 180 set #3. Ccw 180 set #4. try this. Chad |

thanks guys, i made a goof, i did them the right way the first time, just not on the right stroke. that proves that i should have been sleeping at 2am instead of adjusting valves |
