If you are running Aviation fuel it contains methanol alcohol and has some of the same effects as ethanol only it doesn't eat rubber like ethanol but it dries it out causing seals to crack and in some cases shrink o-rings. AV GAS can be run so long as a good top oil is added to the fuel such as Marvel Mystery oil. It is alcohol in any fuel that does the damage to rubber parts (Aircraft use a different type of seal made of Viton rubber that is not affected by alcohol) Been there done that have a drawer full of t-shirts. lastly, I would inspect the accelerator pump diaphragm first. You may find the spring with corrosion as accelerator pumps on webber, solex, and dells collect water or moisture.
When I ran AC I use to crack the screws loose following the last ride of the season and bleed the fuel off the fuel and any accumulated water or sediment after running the float bowls as dry as possible. The same procedure should be used any time you get caught in the rain even if you have covers.
You may also check the distributor springs and weights to make sure it is advancing properly.
That is the the reason I run fuel injection. No carburetors, distributor-less ignition is nice too. I am just drawing on my experiences and it maybe something else.
