My motor was doing great no oil leaks and no fuel issues i had it out a few weeks ago brought it back and gave it a good pressure washing now i have a steady oil leak out of behind the pulley and for some reason fuel is going in my case i thought i had a stuck float or something so i took the top of the carb off and cleaned and inspected the float and the needle that lets the fuel in idk if its the gas now with the ethanol in it causing that needle to go bad with the rubber tip or what i put a brand new stock fuel pump. On and rtv siliconed it (high temp) so i wouldnt think it could be that and what can you do to stop a leak from behind the pully without tearing into the motor right now i would like to atleast get through labor day ride in wellsville and possibly till the snow comes any tips or ideas on this problem it is a 1915 with dual 40s on it |

Are they empi carbs? If so ive seen them leak down through the idle circuit under the butterflys. The only way to fix this problem is to send the carbs off and have them checked out and repaired. Its usually a bad casting in the idle circuit that lets fuel from the bowl leak throught the mixture screws and progressive ports. |

make sure your case is ventilated or the pressure will blow oil out the pulley.If you run one of those breather boxes they clog and stop ventilation. Here is a good one. I have seen several VW repair books that picture the smallest main bearring by the pulley showing the bearring installed backwards with that circular hole routing oil pressure out to the pulley! It needs to face the inside to send oil back to the motor.I know the spiral groove in the pulley (helps)send the oil back , but still ! A stock mechanical fuel pump with a pin hole can leak fuel into the case. |

They are empis but when i had the bowl is what filled up over night but it could be the casting too i guess i will be looking into sending them out here adventually and thanks for the post on the oil leak i actually taped that barbed fitting off when i pressure washed it and never removed it ill do that here soon thanks |

Where is the gas tank mounted? If it is up alot higher than the fuel pump it will drain and cause the problem you are having. You could put a shut off valve on the tank for when the buggy isn't being ridden. |

Ya its about level with my carbs and thats what i am gonna do i think is put a shut off valve on it any one know where i can get one i checked auto zone and advanced didnt seem like they had them |

Thanks roy auto zone had a little tractor section and had them i bought them a while ago and thr markings on them made it seem they werent for gas shut offs but did a little research on them and looks like they are |

i had the same problem with my weber 2 barrel i put a shut off on the fuel line and fixed it |

That shut off valve is great in the winter to keep moisture/water from running down hill to your carbs and freezing and busting them. At least put a dip in the fuel hose.Or just remove them and put them under your bed.lol |

If you have a sand seal pulley they seal will go bad and cause a oil leak. |

thanks guys and my problem withe fuel was when it sat in the garage for a period of time and the oil leak problem is solved as of now i had my bug pack breather box unhooked and taped the fitting off to wash it and forgot to take the tape off and it was building pressure i guess and making my oil leak out behind the pulley but like i said i think that problem is solved now all i need to do is put the fuel shut off in my fuel line and put my trailing on arm back on then im ready to go again next ride with it will be wellsville labor day weekend hope to meet some of you down there thanks again
