i built a 1776 a year or so ago and put it up and got to thinkin i may have a problem i had acquired a stroker motor that had a bad case and took the jugs off and put on a stock bottom end i had layin around i used the shims out of the stroked motor under the jugs on the stock bottom end and was wonderin AM I GOIN TO HAVE ENOUGH COMPRESSION? |

this just sounds bad u need to get someone who knows what they r doing and get them to fix it for u too many varibles to just guess pistons rods and machine work to deck all play a factor in compression |

It needs to come apart and have everything measured. If the pistons you installed are stroker versions it probably won,t have enough compression to even start. |

You want .040 to .060 from the piston to the head + you need to cc the heads to come up with the compression ratio . Go to cb performance eng. calculator .If you wont to run pump gas you need no more then 9.5 |

how do i go about measuring from the piston to the head lay a straight edge across top of jugs? |

Yes or bugpack has a tool part 7007 deck height measuring tool and feeler gauges. Call one of the sponsors like Drews. |

A simple way of doing deck height is roll piston to top dead center and measure with a machinest rule from top of piston to the top of the jug 2.5 millimeters is equivalent to sixty thousands if my memory serves me right. If you have a stock bottom end u need non stroke pistons also known as (A) pistons. If you want you can go as low as thirty thousands deck height. It has been done but the piston can tag the head in high rpm applications. Just food for thought. Hope this was helpful
