All coils are 6 volts through the use of an internal or external resistor so the 5/6 volts out is right. This is the primary winding part of the coil and the secondary windings need tested with an ohm meter. Electronic ignition is recognized as the preferred ignition source so don't be quick to give up on it. If you don't have a meter the easiest test is with a known good coil. A test light on the negative post of the coil should show the distibutor firing when you crank it over for a module test.

Easyest way to test a coil is to apply +12VDC to the + side of the coil, disconnect the negative side from points and tap wire to ground. Also pull the coil wire out of the distributer and hold it away from ground about 1/4". Watch for a bright blue spark from the coil wire to ground. If you get a spark each time you pull the negtive wire off ground your good to go. BTW use a pair of plug wire pliers to hold the coil wire. Or you could have one of your close buds just hold it there!
