I'm no rocket scientist but I call b.s.,how can changing the piston make 93 octane ignite right at 13:1 compression.answer for this question please, somebody enlighten my dumb ass, lol.Chad |

NO i have not but i make my own. And dont tell people you can run 13.1 on 93. |

It can and has been done by many. Its not as easy as just slapping the pistons in though. The chambers in the heads have to be modified to match the pistons and the cam needs to be ground on a different lobe center if memory serves me. For the costs involved you could buy ALOT of race gas to run a high compression conventional setup. |

I'd rather stick with my current setup, I believe in what I run on now and it works just fine for me, why do people want to run the high compression anyways? I know it is extra free torque, but in my eyes, I'd rather have the reliability than the other way around, I have plenty of power like it is with the lower compression (11.5:1) I know I'd like to go for bigger, badder, better on the engine size, 2500 to a 2920, but believes that I should stick with the mild compression IMO...... |

I know you can run this compression ratio on as low as 87,but that's in a motor with knock sensers and variable timing, ecu's,direct injected, motorcycles running computers turning 10,000 plus rpms, special intakes and cylinder heads that twist the fuel or mist it combined with electronics. what I was getting out of the article is buy these pistons and run low octane fuel at 13:1 in your buggy.I'm probably wrong but this is going to be hard to do on a n/a air cooled vw.just don't see how you could retard the timing enough or would want to try this, especially on a big stroked motor.motorcycles have been running this and higher ratios for years and Jaguar,BMW,Ferrari, all run these ratios as far back as early 80's.but they all did it with knock sensors and ecu's with some type of direct injection.I don't see a vw with dual 40's running 87 octane at 13:1 with just a new set of pistons.Chad |

can anyone find any pics of the face of these pistons? from what im reading it just has a small dish in the middle and it supposedly creates a faster burn. a faster burn would magnify a detonation problem. only way possible would be with computer timing and an EGR valve or some kind of water injection to keep the cylinders really cool. |

You won't see a picture of them because when you purchase the from John @ aircooled.net you sign a non disclosure agreement. |

from my many years of reading and being in and around garages, mechanics, racers, and race shops, and of internet searches and readings for the past several years, my best guess at the design of sqishy pistons is that it is flat and raised around the outside all the way in to the edge of the conbustion chamber and then have dish in the center to match the combustion chamber, or my 2nd besst guess would be raised around the outside and a round dish in the center with a raised center (kinda like a soup bowl with a half a grapfuit sittimg in the soup bowl rounded part up) if that makes any sense |

CYLINDER PSI controled with the cam will play major part. Example 2 engines both running 11:1, one with 140psi the other at 170psi, one will run on cheeper gas than the other. |

Compression is where it's at! |
