Ok really confused here.I've never ran a dry sump system before so need some help.the line comes from the CB oil pump goes to a filter that's mounted to the cross bar behind the motor, then goes down to the tank behind the seat and plums into the top of the tank.then out bottom of tank to oil pump.is this correct? I have no oil on my dip stick and the tank is full to the baffle.I have been leaking oil out in the yard from a loose hose,I tighten the clamp down checked my oil and it was to the top of dipstick full, looked in tank and couldn't see real good but oil looked like barley in the bottom.fired it up oil started in the tank and then I let run for a few seconds maybe 30 or 45 then shut down checked dipstick and was dry.oil was to baffle in tank.I kept filling motor til I got oil on dip stick.took for a short spin up the road and blew freaking oil out the vent on tank, witch is a hose looped over with a gas filter on the end.so I parked it and it's set for couple months and leaked just a little more oil out.last night I checked the dipstick and was to the top, looked in tank and same thing, started let run maybe 20 seconds pulled out 25 feet, shut down checked and dipstick was dry, tank just full to level with baffle in tank.what's my problem is there a problem and how do I fix it if there is,wanting to ride tomorrow and Sunday .somebody educate me on these and how to use this system.Chad |

its working fine. the way u have it when it sits it will put oil in the case. when u start it it will pump oil back to tank emptying the case. the only way to stop it is to put a shut off valve at the bottom of ur oil tank and close it when it sits, but be careful always remeber to open the vavle before u start it. the dipstick is for looks now. all u need to do is let it run and then check the oil level in the tank this is where u check it now |

Ok so as long as I have oil in my tank at least to the baffle I'm good.kinda thought that but with the money I got in this I wanted to be sure.I think I will put a valve on it for when I park it for long periods of time, let oil get up on the stick then shut the valve.thanks for the info, you've helped me out on and off the trail and I appreciate that.Chad |

Under no circumstances do you want to install a manually operated valve in your oil line. Forget to open one time and your motor is toast! |

i have a valve on mine and have forgotten to open it before. now the only time i close it is when i know its gonna sit for long periods of time like all winter. we have rebuilt the motor since then and i pay real close attention to it now. you cant go wrong with dry sump though. |

Its ESPECIALLY hard to remember to open that valve on them groggy hangover mornings when everyone else is rolling out to the trails and you wanna hurry up and jump in the buggy to catch up before they are out of sight! Ask me how I know that How high is your tank mounted? higher than your engine? Move the tank , if it is. My 2 seater was like that and it would dump so much oil in the motor it would run out the dipstick tube when you pulled it out, after sitting too long. And smoke like hell where the cylinders would fill with oil, even with brand new p&c's. Doubt it wouldve even fired up had it not been for MSD and good starter. |
