im building a 1915 and was wondering if im on the right track sofar heres the list of what i plan to do so far if im missing somthing or should do somthing else please let me know thanks im starting with a stock 1600 case guna mill it out to fit 94mm pistons (what brand pistons should i use) ill also open up the heads and try cut the valves (how much should i open them) i was thinking a engle vz15 cam but is there somthing better what lifters should i do (or can i use stock ones) oil pump?? (i wana have a remote oil cooler and filter what needs to be done) carbs 44 idfs dual setup a petronix ignigton and a 009 distributer and all new berings ,studs,and hardware is there anything im missning or is this bout it (or am i complety wrong) |

You are on the right track with your build. The VZ-15 camshaft works well in a 1915 as long as the compression ratio is set above 9-1. Anything over 9.5-1 and you will have to start mixing the fuel with race gas to keep the heat down. The higher the compression ratio, the more power it will put out. (more maintenance too) One of my motors (Okie) has this camshaft and we are running pump premium with a CR of 9.5-1 and a single 44mm Weber. This motor has big valve heads which are only slightly cleaned up and it really runs nice. It could run better with dual carbs but money is an issue right now. 44 Webers are to big for this size motor and will need to be downsized to run properly. You will have to change out the venturi's to make them smaller and you will be ok. This way if you wanted to build something bigger in the future you can change them back and you will be set. Piston and cylinder choice depends on weather you are building a pump gas motor or a race gas motor. If the CR is below 10-1, you can get by with a plain old set of off the shelf Mahle P&C. High CR requires top quality stuff such as Wiesco or similar. All the big power comes from the heads. Do some research about this before you start trying to "open them up" yourself. If you don't know what you are doing, you can ruin a set of heads in a couple of minutes. Bigger is NOT always better. Full flow oiling is the only way to go. Do some searches about this subject to get the correct procedure for doing this. Hope some of this information was helpful. Good luck and have fun! Roy |
