asking for a friend. mild 1835,stock heads and rocker assemblies with swivel feet adjusters. this past weekend the left side shaft had three of the rocker arm wave washers braek. not all at once he said it happened every other day. the one time i saw it with the valve cover off it had a loosley adjusted arm. it was obviously adjusted correctly each time it was repaired. When we were done riding on sunday night it was ticking again and i,m sure doing the same thing but we just loaded and took home. He said it was a washer for a different rocker each time. right side never had a problem. this is second season on this engine. Thanks for any help. Tony |

Check to see if the rocker boss shims are on both sides. You need them with swivel feet. |

had the same problem. Those washers are 30-40 yrs old and are not made to hold up to the abuse we put on them. Just check the washers before u replace them. If they have shiny spots on them they are worn and are gonna fail. I pulled a few outta my sump screen, also found a broken end clip in there to. If he can go to solid shafts. Bolt up application. I still run run stock on my 1641, mild cam, cut heads 10-1 comp. Scares me though when i check the valves and washer is broken and cannot find it! |

Just wondered if you ever found a problem? Next sugestion mite be lack of lubrication to rockers. Which would probably mean some thing restricting oil flow to the lifters on the one side, as you said, "it's never the same one". If so, that could be affecting other components. |

He has'nt even removed the buggy from the trailer since mem wknd  thanks for all the ideas though. He's going to start on it soon.

If this engine has heavier valve springs than stock then solid rocker shafts are a must. Either way solid rocker shafts would be good for your engine and they are nice to look at when you adjust valves. |
