Lent the compression tester to an idiot who did n't return the metric adapters with it, so could n't do. With fuel wash thinning the oil, leaks are more visable. After removing shroud and tins could see seapage around #2 & #4 at the heads. Figured I'd retorque the heads. They were n't even close to torque value. ( chrome molly 8mm studs )Took them to 18 ft/lb.s acording to the Bently. With a custom high perf. engine, is that enough? What should it be? Also chrome molly push rods, been told a loose zero. What 0.0015?
Fuel wash! After removing the intakes I noticed a strange color in the #4 runner. Tried to rub it off, it was a fuel puddle! Will be going back through carbs again to find that sticky spot.

Sounds like a valve stuck open, because the intakes share the same lobe on the cam that #2 and #4 is on and really need to do a compression check, you can get the adaptors from snap-on or any local parts store.

Adaptor will be in tommorow. Rocker shafts are off for access to head bolts. Valve heights are equal. If I can get a recomendation, or confermation, for head torque, I'll mount the rockers and test compression before re-assembling anything else.

Thanks. And the valve lash? Chromemolly push rods. I'll set them at 0.005 for now. Engine is about 1/2" wider than stock, 5.6" rods and 82mm stroke.

just be careful tighting them that tight 25 is way up there for 8 mm studs if they are farely new they will be fine but i learden the hard way with big compression if your studs are that tight they will break

Yeas thats with new ones. Idk about used ones. What do u consider big compression? 25 ft lbs has been fine for around 13:1 for me.

There is no way that thing has that much compression

With holes drilled in the valves

I went to 24 ft.lb.s and .004 on valve lash. Engine was first run in August with more down time than running time, as I kept changing things. To both the engine and buggy. Only used 2 tanks of gas so far, but done 4 oil changes due to wash down. Not a lot of hours, ( so studs are fairly new )
Did compression test today, 140-150 psi. ( with gased out oil ) Funny that after re-torquing, it's the #2 & #4 that were n't firing right, that have 150 psi. Did n't have time to finnish putting things together. That will be Monday, and back into the carbs.

You have to allow for 3 points off bad compression to escape, so we set it up 16:1 to make up for the drilled valves

Rock if I had the room I'd be happy to let you stay. But could probably find a place. As far as everything legal, hmmm. Like smoking pot? Would n't say that, but some things are so common they don't bother bust'n you.
