| Post subject: | suddon loss of power |
Last weekend after rideing hard all day long in +/-90 degree temps i was on the hard top road going up a 1/2 mile hill. I was in 3rd running nearly 4500 rpms and shifted to 4th. 4th would not pull the hill so i went back to 3rd and ran for 15 or so seconds at around 4-4500 rpms and all at once i felt that i was loosing power. the first thing that went through my mind was berrings, but i continued to drive (easily) for another 1/2 mile and pulled over. the motor never locked up or anything like that. i shut it off and it was smokeing i let it cool for about 10 min. and started it back up and headed for home. on the way, i was driveing easily and i noticed it loosing power again. I heard a sound something like a whining noise. i shut it off again to cool for a while and then finally made it home. i thought that i was loosing compression somehow (ie. rings, valves, spark plugs), but how come it came on all at once? I have not yet checked compression. a guy at work thought that it was just getting hot and the pistons/cylinders were "growing." It seems like i am getting good air flow from the fan, over the cylinders. Just yesterday i started it in the garauge and let it run about 2 min and it seemed to run OK. I am a little scared to take it out again till i know what's going on. Any ideas of what to look for, and how to fix would be helpful!! 1915cc, dual carbs, cam, #3 cyl has a kingcert in the spark plug hole Thanks |

Check your timing or possibly for an air leak (intake). it sounds like your getting hot. |
