I ordered 4.5" X 7" X 6" cotton guase air filters for the Dells I'm working on. Also got outerwears and UNI filters. Thought I could put 1 over the other. The outer wears are taylored to tight and wont fit over the foam UNI's. So figure I'll just use one or other depending on conditions. Can some one explain the advantages of each and what conditions either would be best for. Thanks, Dave W.

I put the outer wear on first then i go to walmart and buy shop vac foam filters and put over the outer wear.You get 2 foam filters for 4.98.

personally, i have not had any luck with the outter wears. I love the foam prefilters! I have 2 sets and if its really dusty, I change them out and the k&n never even looks dirty.

I use both all the time and my K&N filter looks new every time i check it..

Thanks! New question, The foam UNI's are suposed to be oiled, is that a different oil than the K&N's? Or is there some thing else you can use. Thanks. BTW, the Dell rebuild kits finally arrived. So I'll be wanting to use these filters soon. Also the cotton gause filters, I assume should be treated the same as a K&N, as in cleaning and oiling?

I use 80-90 on my 5.00 dollar vacuum filters from Wal-Mart (Thanks pipe dope) Because they are so prose. But with the uni’s I would use engine oil. Any thing to make them catch dust.

A Ripit i would use the K&N oil its alot cleaner and it works just fine and yes clean them the same way you clean the K&N filter. I sray the cleaner on all of it and let it soak a few mins and then rinse them off without a tip on the water hose.If you go to a race shop you can get big cans of the K&N oil as for the cleaner i use dish soap.

i agree on the foam filters being better then the k&n filters . i bought a filter cleaning kit and the filter oil last alot longer then the cleaner so i found that the cheap spray bottle of purple power cleans them right up and then reoil then .
