which position is the best to mount the remote oil cooler as in where the lines hook up out to the side, bottom, or top? |

Mine now lies flat under the gas tank. Before that for 17 years it was mounted at a 15 degree angle with the fittings facing down towards the engine mounted above the fuel tank to get it in the wind. Crank mic'd out new at 18 years. I always used Bosch or Mann oil filters. I'm thinking a check valve might not be needed. |

About mid-level is the best place to mount a cooler some mounts it higher and some lower but I think you should mount it as low as possible IMO. Mine is almost the same level as the oil tank is just a little higher and it is that way because that is the lowest I can mount it on my buggy. I never tried the check valve before but I don't think it is a good idea to put anything inline like valves or anything because a check valve can go bad and interrupt the flow and the on-off valves too because you can forget to turn it on and that happened to somebody at the last hillclimb I think. The best way to prevent the oil running into the motor when parked is to put a jack under the rear end and leave it elevated when the buggy is parked in your garage and on the trail I wouldn't worry about it at all it will be fine. |

Don't know if it's right or not, but the way I did mine. First running oil through a full flow filter arangement with a Wicks 51515R filter. (Apperantly racing filters[or some of them] have built in check valves. Then through an oil stat, (thermal by-pass valve) into cooler. Mounted with fittings to left side, verticly and angled forward, be hind fuel tank for protection. Input on bottom, (should push bubbles up, less likley hood of vapor lock I think) out-put on top and through thermal switch for electric fan. Advice, keep oil lines as short as needed and cooler protected. |

I am running the same filter too, the only thing the check valve does in the filter it to keep oil in the filter at all times when running or not that way it will not take longer for the filter to fill up with oil everytime you start the engine up also you are supposed to fill your filter up with oil before you put it on when doing an oil change as well to help from dry-starting when checking it to make sure its done properly. |
