I have a 8" crack in the top of my AS21 2332 case. The case had a 6" crack last season and I tried to fix it with JBweld and now it's 8" starting above #1 and traveling down the side towards the cylinder. The case is on its last leg and I'm just trying to finish the season. Has anyone tried durafix on a mag case?

That case is definatly on its last leg. I am surprised that it has not gernated the way you drive. When you fixed it last year did you drill a small hole at the ends of the crack to stop the continuation of it?

Can you get someone to TIG weld it for you. The rod is a bit expensive but you should be able to save the case.

Ive got the good stuff(BELZONA) if you want to try it. In fact ill walk you through the steps and give you the literature on how to fix it( we have a written procedure for this).

Chris im curious as to where you work to have experience with devcon. I am a belzona rep for the northwest alabama area... pm me if you want....

Also, I want to add that you have to terminate the crack in order to stop it. Find a small small drill bit and drill a hole at each end of the crack. Depending on how big you may way to take some metal screw and screw them in the crack to give it ridgitythen saw the heads and the screw inside the case off. After that you need to roughen the outside of the crack up as much as possible( i use a 16 grit aluminum oxide disc). *critical* you then need to either sweat the case to remove as much oil as possible. If you use our 1831 product it will work with oil present but i still suggest sweating the cracked area out. I then would wipe with mek and apply product with a reinforcing cloth..... Feel free to ask questions this is what I do for a living...

didnt know u sold belzona, i have heard it was good stuff too, just never had any to try

i used to work at wolverine tube in decatur till they shut down and we had the devcon in the tool crib and have used it and have noticed it at a few parts stores here lately but i wouldnt mind trying out some of the belzona next time i need something like that

Just let me know. I keep a "trial" supply at the house. Its fixed quite a few tractor blocks,weedeaters,pressure washer pumps, tractor tires, etc haha....

There's alot of Google stuff about welding vw blocks.

Small world... I live down the road from roll's house and mike pretty much lives in my back yard....

I've done some mag welding, and the filler rod is expensive!! The welding shop I go to gave me about 10 peices. Its really no harder to tig than aluminum, and the best fix I'm sure. if you lived a little closer, i'd weld it up for a case of beer!

Ok thanks guys. I’ve decided to try durafix it should be here Monday. The case isn’t really worth much. It has 15 thousandths endplay and up and down movement. This is just to try to finish the season. I will try to take video using the durafix and post the results.

I was talking to a guy I work with, and he said that when he was at the Canfield Swap Meet, a guy was there selling that rod and demonstrating it. He was welding on pop cans, and it welded just as easy as it was in the video. I asked him how much he was selling it for. He said that he wasn't interesting in welding pop cans, so he didn't ask the guy. I really did see the stuff on TV, and I forgot how much the stuff went for. What did you end up paying for it? Hope it works for you.

$40 shipped for 1 pound of it.

So did the aluminum solder work? Just so you know, there is no penatration when using this and is similar to putting bondo on a car fender.

I know that you're trying to finish the season, but I would'nt take the chance ruining the engine internals just to ride it out for the season, there is a lot of riding left to do especially into the middle of December. I would go ahead and find me a case and get it ready for the 2276 parts and then take a couple of weekends to covert everything over to the new case. I learned this the hard way 4 years ago.
