I am with Gasman on this one. A set of 94 MM Pistons and cylinders will give you a 1915 with stock crank. Put a 110 grind cam and at least a single 44MM Weber carb on it. This makes a nice afforable package. Anything less will be a disapointment if your looking for power.
I am with both of them on the 1915. An Engle 110 cam is a great all around cam. An Engle VZ 14 or 15 came will make it pull harder. All thes cams need dual valve springs and heavy duty retainers.
I want to talk about the heads as this is where the real power is made. The heads need to have very fast intake and exhaust port velocity as opposed to massive CFM. Without high port velocity at low valve lifts drivability (torque) suffers. Not getting the heads built for the cam, carb, engine size and type of driving can cost a lot of driveability and HP. If you do your own heads search cal-look, shoptalkforums, thesamba .coms etc for tips on where not to remove material.
A good example is my prevoius version of my 2180 with a single 32NDIX carb and 7.8 to 1 compression and only two 24 mm venturies it ran 15.5 in the 1/4 mile and feared no hill.
Stroking an engine adds more torque but requires more attention to detail.
