im cutting my 8 ply v-treads. Whats the best cheapest rims for these? they are 31x15.50x15

Unsprung weight is the enemy of power (and transmissions). Your tires are going to be pretty heavy so go with a light wheel if you can. The late model beadlocks seem to work very well. They aren't the cheapest but your tranny will thank you.

what would i be looking at?

250 per for new. Find some race guys and you can get them around 100-120 a piece. Then a set of adapters from Southern Buggies will run you 85 shipped.

I got a pair of 15x14x5bs weld aluminum non-beadlock on Ebay for less than $100 shipped. Beadlocks will be over twice that. More like 3 times. The vtreads stay on a lot better than my 35 boggers,,,I am now trying to find some 12" wide beadlocks for my 16" wide boggers. Instigator has adapters too.

if i put the alumium rims on, will they not bend? cuz my .190 blaster rims are like playdough out in wellsville

everyone I know around here runs Weld Alum beadlocks. They will bend but it would take a hella hit to do it. I put a bubble in the center of mine backing down (full clutch) waterfall hill and slammed a tree at the bottom. Bent the trailing arm and bubbled the center of the rim but its still straight.

Weld wheels that late-model drivers use are damn-near bullet-proof, they are tough, light, and can handle anything you throw at it, if they are not that good, then why do the race car drivers use them? I know that they are not cheap, but it will do you great good in the long run and well worth the money, I have 3 sets of beadlocks, one has the boggers on them, the other has the tractor tires on them and soon, the last set will have new tractor tires, and the set of non-beadlocks with my street tires on them.

i would love to go beadlock........... but at 125 being the cheapest for a rim right now....... cant do it. I need motor b 4 beadlocks. i've never lost a tire

Brad just to let you know that guy does NOT have any more beadlocks on 5 non-beadlock rims left.

Its not the tire your keeping on....its the 11lb rim you are gaining.

Huge difference! Unsprung weight affects your buggy more than the total weight of the buggy does.

wouldnt having a lighter wheel cause more wheel spin?

It doesn't "cause" it. it allows your motor to have some power and actually spin the tires. wheel speed is almost everything in climbing.

Dave, If you go from steel to alum. rims, It'll feel like you got that new motor. I've heard one pound of rotating weight is equal to three pounds of still weight. You'll really tell a difference. Go with the rims first.
If you build a new motor but still run steel wheels, you will never feel the true power of the motor anyways.
When you cut a tire, you're not only going for the extra traction and flex, but also trying to cut as much weight off as possible. IF you are still gonna cut your tires yourself, cut ALL THE WAY to the cords. Take as much weight off of the mas you can. The farther away the rotating weight is from the center of your stub axle, the more it affects the whole deal.

this is a picture of my rims,they are a 3 piece kiezer alum beadlock and weighs only 10lbs.i like the fact that it is 3 piece,if i bend the outside or inside i just have to replace that half and not the whole thing.instigator made the cool flame adapters.wheels was $ 255 each and that was shipping included to my front door.and does it ever make a diffrence in the way the motor turns them now. chad
