I am in the process of planing to build my first rail buggy. Already ordered a bee-line packrat frame, which is coming in next week. If i want to run 35 x 14.50 inch boggers on the back, what will it take. I was planing on a 6 rib trany, 930 axle, 3x3 trailing arms and a vw engin in the 1915 to 2300 range. Will this work, also what is the biggest tire i can run on the front with an off raod rack and pinion and a 6inch wider beam. Keep in mind i want this thing to perform.

You are off to a good start. Your going to want to be on the 2200+cc to run the boggers with a 6 rib. You might want to concider changing gear ratios on your trans to get the boggers going. Front tires go from 5.00x15 up to 7.00x15. I would let your front ride height determin what tire size to go with. I have a set of 5.00x15 on mine now, wouldn't do it again. Next set will be 5.90x15.
Every build requires photos. When you get going start posting them

You might wanna run 33's or 31's little smaller same traction in my opinion..

Good plan! Are you going to run longer and wider front trailing arms? If you are, I am currently running Mickey Thompsons Mini-Mags and love them, you can get different sizes for a 15-inch wheel, you may like the tire, maybe not, and far as the engine and transmission goes.......looks like a good start, you would want to run a stroker engine if you want to be serious, I would run a 2387cc, but I am running a 2276cc right now, it does not cost hardly anything more to buy a 86mm crank instead of the 82mm crank, it just depends on you block clearance, I love the way my engine is running now and I am running 33" boggers too, but my transmission has been re-geared for a little higher 1st gear and lower 2nd gear and it runs great with this engine/transmission/tire combo. Check out the BOTM of Jan. 2009 and the year of 2008 BOTM's prior to it, it has all kinds of great info and pictures that you are looking for. Good luck on your new project and keep us posted for any questions and pictures.....there are a lot of great people on here to help answer your questions.

I run 16x5 rims with 7.50/16 single rib tractor on the front
and to me 33 are better than 31
to quote a very smart man [B Burns] "the bigger the tire, the smaller the hill"

It may be coincidence but this chart seems correct for me,,,I run 31's with stock 456. I've tried different gearing and the chart holds true for me. BTW I run first with this setup.

Mine and Karen's are made by SACO. We ordered them from German Auto .You can buy halves so when you crush one you only have to buy one half. And I was wrong they are 16x4.Wide five.Unsprung weight ,Tons of ground clearance,On Aluminum wheels Single rib ,Very light weight

Thanks for all the help. I was thinking of running 3" raised king pin spindles on the front. Do these work well or not.

I have them and love them, it gives me huge ground clearance and awesome wheel travel, everything that I have are made by Tweeds in the front end, 3" spindles, king pins, and trailing arms.
