For my off road buggy, vw based, which would be more durable the wide five or spindle mount? I know with spindle I'd be losing my from brakes, but do I really need them?

It would be easier to find a spare five bolt rim and tire in the woods than find a spindle mount.

I am with the other guys on this one, a wheel with lugs is superior. I have spindle mounts on my buggy, and wish I had lugged wheels. My spindle mounts do not seem as if they would be very strong, and they also keep one from running brakes. Best wishes

It would be hard to find , but a '65 or older type 3 had a five lug with the factory star in the hub, but it is different than the beetle star type hub. It has a small wheel bearing cap and takes the same wheel bearings as a ball joint front end. they are very sharp looking if you paint them the same color as yer frame.
