Just got a buggy, got a good deal on it because the motor is locked up So I'm planning on making it a 1679 and some port work, it has a 3 rib bus tranny my question is how big of a tire can I run without killing all my acceleration? By the way I live in PA so we have hills everywhere |

I also live in PA, we run St. Clair and Trevortom, I ran my 1600 with a 3 rib and 31x15.5x15 v treds with no prob, albeit I couldn't do the big coal hill but I still had plenty of fun. So a 31" would be as big as I would go, any bigger and you would touch the torsion bar cap if your running car IRS. If you have a bus torsion u could prob get away with a little bit bigger tire but that would start to affect your gearing. Unless u go bigger motor

I would agree, a 31 would be the best size. You can either cut some boggers or get V-Treads |

V-treads are a little out of my price range at the moment. Have a set of bfg's all terrain. Any way I could cut those and make them better or any other tire suggestions? |

I will in a few days it's still over at the previous owners house. Oh btw it's a real barn find! Guy I know has a barn that's half fallen in I went over to get him a hand moving snow and I found it and asked about it |

i am sure a lot of folks will tell you go with as big as engine as you can afford, mine had a 1641 on it and i am running steel wheels and 31x15.5x15 vtreads. and the longer hills and real steep hills i have issues with it bogging down. and no recovery on a hill. i would at least go to a 1776 or a 1835, but if you are going to go that, might as well go 1915 as i am. there is a lot of good mechanics on this site that can help you with the particulars. and lot of folks that have a lot more experience with buggies and engines than i do. good luck which ever direction you go in. and post some pictures of that barn find!

29 v treads vs 31 15.5 v treads. Here is a good comparison for tire sizes. Watch the two videos and you can see the amount of power it takes to turn them with a 6 rib. There is a 3 rib on 29s in the last video. 1641 fly cut heads 6 rib with 29 V treads on the four seater. Ecotec on the yellow one. 31 15.5 v treads on four seater. 1600 stock engine on green two seater with a 6 rib. Yellow rocket is Bubbachains. Orange buggy is 1641 flycut heads 3 rib on 29 v treads. My four seater 6 rib on 31 15.5 V treads. You can hear a big difference in rpm between Eric's and my engine while climbing this hill. 1641s are identically built by myself they just have different sized headers. |

I just wandering about running some taller tires. I got a 1915 with 3 rib. I got 30.5 x 11.5 Swampers now and it crawls great. I don't hill climb just trail ride. So I need ground clearance more.
